Things to Do

Local things to do near North Waterway Estates:

Spend a morning at Hightower Beach — A pleasant local beach. It has a more natural dune feel than some of the basic beach accesses. Satellite Beach has 17 public beach crossovers and three larger beach parks with parking, restrooms, showers and picnic areas.

Pelican Beach Park is another good choice if you want more of a traditional beach-park setup.

Do a bioluminescence tour at night. This is particularly worth doing in August. The Space Coast’s Indian River/Banana River/Mosquito Lagoon system has summer bioluminescence, with June–September considered peak viewing season

Fin Expeditions. Cocoa Beach’s #1 Kayak Company offers nighttime bioluminescence trips from Cocoa Beach, including clear-kayak tours.

Look for manatees around De Soto Park. There’s a canal adjoining the park where manatees are sometimes seen. It’s also a nice short walk rather than an all-day excursion.

Visit Samsons Island Nature Park. This is a little island preserve in the lagoon and is boat-access only. The city also runs free eco-tours to the island on scheduled dates, with reservations required.

Go to Brevard Zoo. It’s considerably better than you might expect for a regional zoo, and you can do unusual extras such as kayaking through parts of the zoo and giraffe feeding. Typical visits run around three hours.

Explore Historic Downtown Melbourne. Have lunch or dinner, browse the shops, then walk down to Crane Creek Promenade. The waterfront boardwalk has designated wildlife/manatee observation areas and makes a nice late-afternoon or sunset stop.Drive south to Sebastian Inlet State Park. If you like coastal scenery, this is one of the best nearby excursions: ocean beaches, fishing jetties, surfing, wildlife and calmer inlet-side areas. There are also two small museums dealing with local fishing history and the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet.

Allow a full day for Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. It’s farther north but absolutely worth it if you haven’t been. You can see Space Shuttle Atlantis, the Saturn V/Apollo area, Rocket Garden and take the bus out toward the historic launch facilities. For August 8–9, 2026 it is scheduled for 9 AM–6 PM; from August 10 it changes to 9 AM–5 PM.
